Yes Man
Yes Man is a 2008 romantic comedy film starring Jim Carrey in one of his classic energetic roles.
The movie follows Carl Allen (Jim Carrey), a pessimistic bank loan officer whose life has been stuck in a rut since his divorce—he constantly says "no" to everything and everyone. After attending a self-help seminar led by guru Terrence (Terence Stamp), Carl commits to saying "yes" to every opportunity that comes his way. This simple change unleashes a series of wild, hilarious, and life-changing adventures: he gets promoted, learns new skills (like flying lessons and languages), meets interesting people, and even finds romance with a free-spirited musician named Allison (Zooey Deschanel). But he soon discovers that saying yes to everything can lead to chaos too.
It's a feel-good, slapstick comedy with heart, exploring themes of positivity, stepping out of comfort zones, and balance in life. The film is loosely based on the book by Danny Wallace.
Key Cast
- Jim Carrey as Carl Allen
- Zooey Deschanel as Allison
- Bradley Cooper as Peter (Carl's friend)
- Terence Stamp as Terrence (the guru)
Supporting roles include Rhys Darby, John Michael Higgins, and Danny Masterson
Directed by Peyton Reed (who later did Ant-Man films), it runs about 1 hour 44 minutes and is rated PG-13.
It was a solid box office hit (grossing over $223 million worldwide) and remains a fun, uplifting watch—though some call it a bit predictable or forgotten in Carrey's filmography compared to his bigger hits like The Mask or Ace Ventura.
Have you seen it, or are you thinking of watching it? It's a great "pick-me-up" comedy!
