Rang De Basanti is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and written by Rensil D'Silva and Mehra. The film features an ensemble cast including Aamir Khan, Siddharth Narayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Atul Kulkarni, Sharman Joshi, and British actress Alice Patten in the lead roles.
The film tells the story of a group of young Indian friends who are brought together to make a documentary film about Indian revolutionaries. As they research their subjects and begin to understand the sacrifices that these freedom fighters made, they become inspired to take action themselves and fight against corruption and injustice in contemporary India.
Rang De Basanti was a critical and commercial success and is widely regarded as one of the best Indian films of the 21st century. It was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2007 BAFTA Awards and was also India's official entry to the 79th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
